Ignition switch
The key can be turned to three different positions, Fig. 3:
- STOP: engine off, key can be removed, steering wheel locked.
Some electrical devices (e.g.
radio, central door locking, etc.) can operate;
- MAR: ready-to-drive position.
All electrical devices can operate;
- AVV: engine start.

The ignition switch has a safety mechanism which, if the engine does not start, requires the key to be turned back to STOP before the engine can be started again.
STEERING LOCK
Locking: when the ignition switch is in STOP, remove the key and turn the steering wheel until it locks.
Unlocking: move the steering wheel slightly and turn the key to MAR.
CAUTION
2) If the ignition switch has been tampered with (for example during an attempted theft), have it checked at a Fiat Authorised Service Centre (ASO) before driving again.
3) When leaving the vehicle, always remove the key to prevent anyone from operating any devices. Remember to apply the handbrake.
When parking on an uphill slope, engage 1st gear; when parking on a downhill slope, engage reverse gear. Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.
4) Never carry out any work involving the steering wheel or steering column after purchasing the vehicle (e.g. fitting anti-theft devices), as this may cause, in addition to loss of system performance and warranty coverage, serious safety problems and non-compliance with the vehicle's type approval.
5) Never remove the key from the ignition switch while the vehicle is moving. The steering wheel will lock automatically on the first turn.
This rule always applies, including when towing the vehicle.
