PINPOINT TEST HK: VARIABLE CAMSHAFT TIMING (VCT)
Introduction

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The PCM monitors and evaluates the response of the actual position to the target position change. The setpoint and camshaft position are stored at the start of the setpoint change. If this change over time is large enough (gradient), the camshaft phase change is evaluated. If the change after the diagnostic time is less than the threshold value, a slow response is detected; if the value is greater, there is no problem. To detect a fault, the debounce counter is increased; otherwise, the counter is decreased.

Refer to DTC Fault Trigger Conditions.

PCM P054C:00 Cold Start Exhaust (B) Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced (Bank 2): No Sub Type Information Set when the PCM detects that the camshaft timing exceeds the maximum calibrated value or remains in the advanced position, indicating the VCT position is excessively advanced during a cold start. This DTC is a functional check of the VCT unit. Diagnose any underlying engine concerns related to engine oil pressure or engine timing. Refer to Section 303-00, Engine System - Engine Oil Pressure Check, to check the engine oil pressure. Refer to Section 303-01, Engine, to check the engine timing and VCT phasers.
PCM P054D:00 Cold Start Exhaust (B) Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 2): No Sub Type Information Set when the PCM detects that the camshaft timing exceeds the maximum calibrated value, or remains in the retarded position, indicating that the VCT position is excessively retarded during cold start. This DTC is a functional check of the VCT unit. Diagnose any underlying engine problems related to engine oil pressure or engine timing. Refer to Section 303-00, Engine System - Engine Oil Pressure Check, to check engine oil pressure. Refer to Section 303-01, Engine, to check engine timing and VCT phasers.
PCM P2088:00 Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit Low, Bank 1: No Sub Type Information Set when the PCM detects that the low voltage in the VCT11 circuit exceeds the calibrated limit for a calibrated period of time.
PCM P2089:00 A Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit High, Bank 1: No Sub Type Information Set when the PCM detects that the high voltage in the VCT11 circuit exceeds the calibrated limit for a calibrated period of time.
PCM P2090:00 B Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit Low, Bank 1: No Sub Type Information Set when the PCM detects that the low voltage in the VCT12 circuit exceeds the calibrated limit for a calibrated period of time.
PCM P2091:00 B Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit High, Bank 1: No Sub Type Information Set when the PCM detects that the high voltage in the VCT12 circuit exceeds the calibrated limit for a calibrated period of time.
