About 911 Assist
911 Assist is a feature of the SYNC system that can request help if you are involved in a crash. In a crash that deploys an airbag (except knee airbags and rear inflatable seat belts, if equipped) or activates the fuel pump shut-off, your vehicle with SYNC may be able to contact emergency services by dialing 911 through a paired and connected Bluetooth-enabled phone. Not every crash deploys an airbag or activates the fuel pump shut-off (which triggers 911 Assist). If the connected cellular phone is damaged or loses its connection to SYNC during the crash, SYNC will search for and attempt to connect to a previously paired cellular phone; SYNC will then attempt to contact emergency services.
Before the Call:
- SYNC provides a short period of time (about 10 seconds) to cancel the call. If you do not cancel the call, SYNC will attempt to dial 911.
- SYNC displays the following or a similar message: "SYNC will attempt to call 911. To cancel, press 'Cancel' on the screen or press and hold the phone button on the steering wheel."
If you do not cancel the call and SYNC places the call successfully, a prerecorded message is played to the 911 operator, and then the occupant(s) of your vehicle can speak with the operator. Be ready to state your name, phone number and location immediately, because not all 911 systems are able to receive this information electronically.
During an emergency call, the system transmits vehicle data to the emergency service. See Event Data Recording.
