SYMPTOM TEST A: THE ADJUSTABLE STEERING COLUMN DOES NOT OPERATE IN ONE OR MORE DIRECTIONS USING THE STEERING COLUMN CONTROL SWITCH

For wiring diagrams and connector information, refer to cell 128 of the Wiring Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

The SCCM receives inputs directly from the steering column control switch, then sends a message on the HS-CAN2 to the GWM indicating the desired steering column movement. The GWM sends a message to the DSM on the MS-CAN, which activates the tilt and telescope (reach) motors based on the received message.

A malfunction of the steering column control switch, circuits, motors or module causes the power steering column to become inoperative, and a DTC may be set in the SCCM and DSM.

SYMPTOM TEST B: THE ADJUSTABLE STEERING COLUMN DOES NOT OPERATE IN ONE OR MORE DIRECTIONS USING THE MEMORY POSITION SWITCH, RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER OR THE EASY ENTRY/EASY EXIT FEATURE

For wiring diagrams and connector information, refer to cell 128 of the Wiring Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

For the RKE memory recall operation, the RTM sends RKE commands to the BCM over MS-CAN. The BCM sends these commands to the GWM over HS-CAN1, and the GWM sends these commands to the DSM over MS-CAN. The DSM then commands the power steering column tilt and telescope motors to move to the desired positions.

For the easy entry/easy exit function, the GWM collects various module messages (transmission gear position, ignition status and driver door ajar status) and sends these messages to the DSM. The DSM then commands the power steering column tilt and telescope motors to move to the desired positions.

For the memory position recall operation using the memory position switch, the switch sends ground signals directly to the DSM, which then commands the power steering column tilt and telescope motors to move to the desired positions.

SYMPTOM TEST C: THE ADJUSTABLE STEERING COLUMN OPERATES IN ONE-SECOND INTERVALS WHEN USING THE STEERING COLUMN CONTROL SWITCH (JOG MODE)

For wiring diagrams and connector information, refer to cell 128 of the Wiring Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

If a steering column tilt or telescope motor position sensor (reach sensor) DTC is set (or if any of the sensor circuits are open), the DSM does not recall the programmed memory position or automatically position the steering column during entry/exit operations. Under these conditions, the affected steering column motor operates in jog mode. Jog mode allows limited control of the affected steering column motor using only the steering column control switch. When the steering column control switch is operated in jog mode, the steering column moves in the selected direction for one second, then stops regardless of the switch activation time. The steering column control switch must be released and then reactivated to move the steering column an additional second.

Refer to: Steering Column - System Operation and Component Description (211-04 Steering Column, Description and Operation).

SYMPTOM TEST D: THE ADJUSTABLE STEERING COLUMN DOES NOT OPERATE IN ONE OR MORE DIRECTIONS

For wiring diagrams and connector information, refer to cell 128 of the Wiring Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Symptoms

To protect the tilt and telescope motors, motor circuits and the internal DSM electronics, the DSM continuously monitors the motor and driver circuits for fault conditions whenever the motors are activated. If the DSM detects a fault in the driver circuits for one or both motors, the DSM stops supplying power to the motors until the next time a motor movement command is received. If this condition is detected during an on-demand DSM self-test, a power tilt or power telescope motor DTC is set.

Refer to: Steering Column - System Operation and Component Description (211-04 Steering Column, Description and Operation).

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
