Straightening. Description and Operation
General
Straightening is often required to restore the original shape of the body. To do this, the vehicle must be mounted on a straightening bench so that a pulling device can be used.

to determine the specific construction material when performing any structural repair.

determine the use of heat for repairing high-strength steels.
Before starting straightening the body, the exact direction of impact must be determined. The straightening force must be applied in the opposite direction to the point of impact. Only in this way can it be guaranteed that the original shape will be achieved again.
- Secure the pulling unit with a safety cable.
- Do not remove bonded glass before straightening.
- Determine whether the use of heat is permitted for the repair.
- If necessary, open the doors or hood/cover/tailgate during straightening.
- During straightening, constantly check dimensions and gaps.
- High-strength steel panels have a stronger tendency to retain their deformed shape.
- During straightening repair, monitor the attachment of the pulling device to the vehicle.
- Perform straightening work in several stages, not in one pulling process. This prevents the risk of overloading and joint tearing.
- During individual straightening steps (under pulling load), relieve the stress in deformed areas while they are still under tension.
- Structural integrity must be restored to pre-accident condition when performing any body or frame component repair.

The following conditions must be observed when performing any straightening repair.
- The repair must be economically justified.
- Manufacturing quality and structural stability of the body/frame must be restored after the repair.
- Individual frame components, such as crossmembers, brackets, etc., may be replaced.
- Application of heat must not exceed the recommended repair limits.
