General information
NOTES
Take care when using external devices with exposed electrical connectors (such as USB plugs).
Always fit protective caps to connectors whenever possible. There is a risk of electrostatic discharge, which may damage the device.
Do not touch or handle the USB port in the vehicle. Cover the port when it is not in use.
Use only compatible USB mass storage devices.
Always switch the audio system to another audio source (e.g. radio) before disconnecting a USB device.
Do not install or connect USB hubs.
Tip: The system recognises and reads only compatible audio files from USB devices that meet the USB mass storage class or iPod requirements. Not all available USB devices work with the system.
Tip: Compatible devices can be connected with a USB cable, as well as devices that plug directly into the vehicle's USB port (e.g.
USB memory cards and flash drives).
Tip: Some USB devices with high power consumption may not be compatible (e.g. some high-capacity drives).
Tip: The time needed to access and read files on an external device may vary depending on factors such as file structure and size, or the contents of the device's memory.
The system works with a wide range of external devices, which are fully integrated with the audio system via the USB port and the AUX IN external device connector. Once an external device is connected, it can be controlled through the audio system.
The following is a list of typical compatible devices:
- USB memory cards
- Portable USB drives
- Some MP3 players with a USB connector
- iPod players (for the latest list of compatible devices, see www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com).
The system is compatible with full-speed USB 2.0 devices, meets USB 1.1 host requirements and works with FAT 16/32 file systems.
Information on the file structure of audio files on external devices
USB
Create only one partition on the USB device.
If playlists are created, they must contain valid file paths referring to the USB device. It is recommended to create playlists after the audio files have been copied to the USB device.
Playlists must be created in .m3u format.
Audio files must be in .mp3 format.
Do not exceed the following limits:
- 1000 items per folder (files, folders and playlists)
- 5000 folders on the USB device (including playlists)
- 8 levels of subfolders
To activate voice control for user-created playlists and folders, carry out the following procedure:
- Create folders named "Ford<*>", where <*> is a number from 1 to 10. For example, "Ford3" without an extension.
- Create playlists named "Ford<*>.m3u", where <*> is a number from 1 to 10. For example, "Ford5.m3u" without a space between "Ford" and the number.
After completing this procedure, user-created folders and playlists can be selected using voice commands. See Radio commands.
iPod
To activate voice control for user-created playlists, create playlists named "Ford<*>", where <*> is a number from 1 to 10. For example, "Ford7" without a space between "Ford" and the number.
