WARNING

Apply the parking brake before moving the gear selector lever and keep it applied until you are ready to move off.

Note: A cold engine has a higher idle speed.

This increases the vehicle's tendency to creep after selecting Drive.

Press the button on the gear selector lever to select reverse gear or Park.

The gear selector lever position will be shown in the information display.

Park position

WARNINGS

  • Select Park only when the vehicle is stationary.
  • Before leaving the vehicle, apply the parking brake and select Park.
Make sure the gear selector lever is locked in this position.

Note: If you open the driver's door when Park is not selected, a warning chime will sound.

Note: The battery saver function will switch off the warning buzzer after a period of time.

In this position, drive is not transmitted to the driven wheels and the transmission is locked. You can start the engine when the gear selector lever is in this position.

Reverse gear

WARNING

Select reverse gear only when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling.

Neutral position

In this position, drive is not transmitted to the driven wheels, but the transmission is not locked.

You can start the engine when the gear selector lever is in this position.

Drive position

Select Drive to have the forward gears changed automatically.

Manual gear selection

Note: A gear will only change when the vehicle speed and engine speed are appropriate.

Select manual gear selection to change forward gears manually.

Push the gear selector lever forward to downshift, or pull it back to upshift.

WARNING

Do not hold the gear selector lever in the + or - position.

Individual gears can be skipped by moving the gear selector lever several times in quick succession.

Kickdown is also available in manual gear selection mode. See Kickdown.

The transmission will automatically downshift when engine speed is too low and upshift when engine speed is too high.

Driving modes

The transmission will select the appropriate gear for optimum performance depending on ambient temperature, road gradient, vehicle load and driver inputs.
