MyKey™
Principle of Operation
In this manual: MyKey™
~3min read
MyKey allows you to program keys with restricted driving modes to promote good driving habits. You can program restrictions on all keys except one. Any keys that you do not program are administrator keys.
You can use Admin keys to:
- Create a MyKey with specific vehicle restrictions.
- Program certain MyKey settings.
- Clear all MyKey restrictions.
After programming MyKey, you can view the following information through the information display:
- The total number of Admin keys and MyKeys for your vehicle.
- The total distance the MyKey driver has driven your vehicle.
Default Settings
Not every vehicle includes the features listed below. If your vehicle has this equipment, you cannot change the following settings when using MyKey:
- Belt-Minder™ seat belt reminder. MyKey mutes the audio system until the driver and, in some cases, passengers fasten their seat belts.
- Earlier low fuel warning. The low fuel warning activates earlier for MyKey drivers, giving them more time to refuel.
- Some driver warnings, stability systems or parking assist systems turn on automatically when using the MyKey system. For example, the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning or Forward Collision Warning.
- Limited touchscreen operation in some markets. For example, MyKey may prevent manual navigation destination entry when the vehicle is in any gear other than Park (P) or when the vehicle reaches a certain speed.
- Adult satellite radio restrictions, if this feature is available in your market.
Additional Settings
You can set certain vehicle feature settings when you first create a MyKey. You can also change the settings later with an administrator key.
- Various vehicle speed limits so that a MyKey driver cannot exceed certain speeds. The information display shows a warning, accompanied by a chime, when the MyKey driver reaches the set speed. You cannot override the set speed by fully pressing the accelerator pedal.
- Various vehicle speed reminders so that MyKey drivers know when their vehicle speed is approaching the limit. Warnings appear on your information display and a chime sounds when MyKey drivers exceed the set vehicle speed.
- Maximum audio system volume is limited to 45% so that MyKey drivers can focus on the road. A message appears on the information display when MyKey drivers attempt to exceed the limited volume. MyKey also turns off automatic volume adjustment.
- Always on setting. This setting keeps certain features on and active for MyKey drivers. For example, E911 or emergency assistance and Do Not Disturb features remain on, even if the MyKey driver uses the control function to turn them off. When selected, you cannot turn off Advance Trac or traction control (if your vehicle has this feature).
