Severe Operating Conditions Scheduled Maintenance
If you primarily drive your vehicle under any of the following conditions, you must perform additional maintenance as specified. If you drive your vehicle occasionally under none of these conditions, additional maintenance is not required. For specific recommendations, consult your dealer service advisor or technician.
Perform the services listed in the following tables when indicated or within 3000 miles (4800 km) of the message appearing in the information display prompting you to change the oil.
- Example 1: The message appears at 28,751 miles (46,270 km). Perform the 30,000 miles (48,000 km) automatic transmission fluid replacement.
- Example 2: The message does not appear, but the odometer reads 30,000 miles (48,000 km) (for example, the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor was reset at 25,000 miles (40,000 km)). Perform the engine air filter replacement.

* Reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after replacing the engine oil and filter.
Exceptions
There are several exceptions to the normal schedule:
Rear Axle and PTU Maintenance
The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) and rear axle (all-wheel drive only) in your vehicle do not require normal scheduled maintenance, unless the vehicle has been subjected to prolonged periods of severe or heavy-duty operation, or both the PTU and axle have been submerged in water. Inspection of the PTU and rear axle fluid is not necessary unless the unit shows signs of leakage. Refer to an authorized dealer for service.
Fuel Filter Replacement in California
If you register your vehicle in California, the California Air Resources Board has determined that failure to perform this maintenance item does not void the emissions warranty or limit recall liability before the end of your vehicle's useful life. However, Ford Motor Company strongly recommends that you have all recommended maintenance performed at the specified intervals and keep all vehicle service records.
Oil Change Intervals in Hot Climates
Vehicles operated in the Middle East, North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, or areas with similar climates using oil certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for gasoline engines (certification mark) of quality SM or SN, the normal oil change interval is 3000 miles (4800 km). If API SM or SN oils are not available, the oil change interval is 1800 miles (2900 km).
Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter Replacement
The service life of the engine air filter and cabin air filter depends on exposure to dusty and dirty conditions. Vehicles operated under these conditions require more frequent inspection and replacement of the engine air filter and cabin filter.
