Running out of fuel may cause damage that is not covered by the vehicle warranty.
If the vehicle runs out of fuel:
- Add at least 5 litres of fuel before restarting the engine. If the vehicle that has run out of fuel is on a slope, a larger quantity of fuel may be required.
- It may be necessary to repeat the ignition on/off cycle several times after refuelling to allow the fuel system to pump fuel from the tank to the engine. Restarting may take a few seconds longer than normal.
To avoid the build-up of static electricity and possible sparks when refuelling an ungrounded fuel container, follow the instructions below:
- To transfer fuel into the vehicle tank, use only an approved container. Place the container on the ground during filling.
- Do not fill the fuel container while it is still in the vehicle (including the luggage compartment).
- During refuelling, keep the fuel dispensing nozzle in contact with the fuel container.
- Do not use a device that holds the nozzle trigger in the open (refuelling) position.
DANGER
Do not insert a fuel can nozzle or an aftermarket funnel into the fuel filler neck. This may damage the fuel filler neck or its seal, causing fuel to spill onto the ground.Do not attempt to pry or apply pressure with foreign objects on a fuel filler system without a cap. This could damage the fuel system and its seal and cause injury to you and others.
Do not dispose of fuel with household waste or into the public sewer system. Take it to an authorised disposal facility. To refuel the vehicle's tank with fuel from a suitable container, use the plastic funnel supplied with the vehicle.
The fuel filler funnel may be located in the glovebox or in the spare wheel compartment.Note: Do not use aftermarket funnels, as they do not work with systems fitted with a fuel filler neck without a cap and may damage them.
To fill the vehicle fuel tank with fuel from a suitable container, proceed as described below:- Fully open the fuel filler flap until it locks, then remove the cap.
- Fully insert the plastic funnel into the fuel filler neck.
- Refuel the vehicle with the fuel from the container.
- Remove the plastic funnel from the fuel filler neck.
- Clean the plastic funnel and store it back in the vehicle, or dispose of it correctly.
