Failure to check for and, if necessary, repair fuel leaks after an accident may increase the risk of fire and serious injury. Ford Motor Company strongly recommends having the fuel system checked by an authorised dealer after any impact.

Vehicles with airbags

If the vehicle stalls after an impact, you can restart it:
  • Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  • Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  • Repeat steps 1 and 2 to reactivate the fuel pump.
Note: after a severe impact, have the vehicle restarted by an authorised dealer.

In the event of a moderate to severe impact, the vehicle is equipped with a fuel pump shut-off function that stops the flow of fuel to the engine. Not every impact causes the fuel flow to be interrupted.

If the fuel shut-off device has been triggered by a collision, proceed as follows to restart the vehicle:

  1. Switch off the ignition.
  2. Check the fuel supply system for leaks.
  3. If no fuel leakage is detected, reset the fuel pump cut-off switch by opening the access panel and pressing the reset button.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to on. Wait a few seconds, then turn the ignition switch to off.
  5. Check that there are no leaks in the fuel system.
  6. If no leaks are found, restart the vehicle.
