Child seat positioning

~4min read
DANGER

Extreme danger! Never use a rear-facing child seat on a seat protected by an active airbag located in front of it. The child could suffer serious injuries, sometimes fatal.

When using a child restraint with a support leg (third anchorage point), make sure the support leg rests firmly on the floor.

When using a child restraint with a seat belt, make sure the belt is not loose or twisted.

When using a child restraint system installed on the rear seat, make sure it sits firmly against the vehicle seat. It must not touch the head restraint. If necessary, remove the head restraint.

After removing the child seat, refit the head restraint.

See Head restraint.

DANGER

Deactivate the passenger airbag when using a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat.

See Passenger airbag.

U1 Suitable for universal child seats approved for use in this weight group.

UF1 Suitable for forward-facing universal child seats approved for use in this weight group. Ford recommends that children travel in an approved child seat on the rear seat, correctly secured.

Note: When using a child restraint fitted to the front seat, make sure it does not touch the dashboard. The passenger seat must be in its furthest rearward position, with the child seat facing forward and secured with the seat belt (through the centre pillar loop). If it is difficult to tension the lap part of the seat belt and fasten it correctly, bring the seatback to an upright position and raise the seat height. See Correct seating position.

Note: When using a child seat on a rear seat, adjust the front seat so that it does not contact the child's feet or legs or the child seat itself.
