WARNING

Do not attempt to open the airbag cover.

The airbag deploys in frontal collisions or collisions up to 30 degrees to the left or right. The airbag inflates in a few thousandths of a second and deflates on contact with the occupants, creating a cushioning element between the driver's knees and the steering column. The knee airbag does not deploy in rollovers, rear collisions, or side collisions.

Note: The knee airbag has a lower deployment threshold than the front airbags. In minor collisions, only the knee airbag may deploy.
