  • Use the Emergency Assistance feature
  • Access phonebook contacts and your music using voice commands
  • Download music from the connected mobile phone
  • Select preset text messages

Safety Information

WARNING

Driving while distracted can lead to loss of vehicle control, accidents and injury. We strongly recommend that you exercise the utmost care when using any device that may take your attention away from the road. Driving your vehicle safely is your first responsibility.

We advise against using portable devices while driving and recommend using voice-controlled systems whenever possible. Make sure you are aware of all applicable laws that may affect the use of electronic devices while driving.

When using SYNC:

  • Do not operate a media player if the power cables or wires are broken, cut or damaged. Route the wires and cables carefully: make sure they cannot be stepped on and that they do not interfere with the pedals, seats or compartments, or prevent safe driving.
  • Do not leave any device switched on in your vehicle in extreme conditions, as it may be damaged. For more information, refer to the device's user manual.
  • Do not attempt any maintenance or repair on the system. Contact an authorized dealer.

Privacy

When a cellular phone connects to SYNC, the system creates a profile linked to that phone. The system creates this profile so you can use more features and so that operation is optimized. This profile may include data from your phonebook, your text messages (read or unread) and your call history. The call history includes calls made or received while your cellular phone was not connected to the system.

If you connect a media player, the system creates and stores an index of the supported media content. The system also records a short diagnostic log of about 10 minutes for each recent system activity. The log profile and other system data may be used to improve the system and help diagnose potential problems.

The cellular phone profile, the media player index and the diagnostic log remain in the system until you delete them.

Generally, they can only be accessed from the vehicle when the cellular phone or media player is connected. If you no longer want to use the system or your vehicle, we recommend performing a full reset to erase all stored information. See Information displays (page 89).

Specific equipment is required to access system data.

Access to the vehicle's SYNC module is also required. We do not access system data without your consent for purposes other than those described. Exceptions include: a court order or when required by law enforcement, other

government agencies or any other third party acting with legal authority.

Other parties may attempt to access this information independently of us. Additional privacy information is available. See SYNC Applications and Services (page 311).
