What to Use
When windshield washer fluid is needed, be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions before use. If operating the vehicle in an area where temperatures may drop below freezing, use a fluid that has adequate freeze protection.
Adding Washer Fluid

Open the windshield washer fluid cap, which has a washer symbol on it. Add washer fluid until the reservoir is full. See Engine Compartment Overview for reservoir location.
- Do not use windshield washer fluid that contains any type of water repellent coating. This may cause the windshield wiper blades to chatter or skip.
- Do not use engine coolant (antifreeze) in the windshield washer system. It may damage the windshield washer system and paint.
- Do not mix water with ready-to-use windshield washer fluid. The water may cause the solution to freeze and damage the washer fluid reservoir and other washer system components.
- When using concentrated windshield washer fluid, follow the manufacturer's instructions for adding water.
- Fill the windshield washer fluid reservoir only three-quarters full in very cold weather. This allows for fluid expansion if freezing occurs, which could damage the reservoir if it is completely full.
