Driver and Passenger Safety

Transporting Children Requiring Increased Attention

~1min read

Many parents prefer to place infants or young children in the front seat, explaining that this allows them to keep an eye on the children, or that children require increased attention from adults.

By placing children in the front seats, parents expose them to the risk associated with deployment of the front or side airbags. In addition, a driver distracted by a child may respond less effectively to changing road conditions, which creates an additional risk of a traffic accident.

If a child requires constant physical support or visual supervision, we strongly recommend having another adult passenger in the vehicle who can sit beside the child in the rear seat.

Placing a child in the rear seat significantly increases their safety compared with the front seat.
