Driving Your Vehicle
Proper Driving Practices
In this manual: Driving Your Vehicle
~2min read
- Never turn off the engine or coast downhill. This is extremely dangerous.
- Do not ride the brakes. This may cause the brakes and related parts to overheat and fail. When driving down a long hill, reduce speed and downshift. Engine braking will help reduce vehicle speed.
- Slow down before downshifting. This helps prevent excessive engine speed that may cause damage.
- Reduce speed when encountering crosswinds. This gives you much better control of your vehicle.
- Before shifting into R (Reverse), make sure the vehicle is completely stopped to avoid damage to the transmission.
- Exercise extreme caution when driving on slippery surfaces. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating, or shifting gears. On slippery surfaces, a sudden change in vehicle speed may cause the drive wheels to lose traction with the road, which may result in loss of vehicle control and an accident.
WARNING
Do not use aggressive engine braking (downshifting from a higher gear to a lower gear) on slippery roads. This may cause the tires to slip and result in an accident.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- ALWAYS wear your seat belt. In a crash, an unbelted passenger is much more likely to be seriously injured or killed than a properly belted passenger.
- Avoid high speeds when driving through curves or turns.
- Do not make sudden steering movements, such as quick lane changes or rapid, sharp turns.
- The risk of rollover increases significantly if you lose control of your vehicle at highway speeds.
- Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels slide off the paved surface and the driver steers to return to the road.
- If your vehicle leaves the paved surface, do not steer sharply. Instead, brake gently before returning to the lane.
- HYUNDAI recommends that you obey all posted speed limits.
