WARNING

To reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, observe the following precautions:

  • NEVER allow children or persons unfamiliar with the vehicle to touch the ignition switch or related parts. Unexpected and sudden vehicle movement may occur.
  • NEVER reach through the steering wheel to the ignition switch or other controls while the vehicle is moving. Having your hand or arm in this area may cause loss of vehicle control, which may result in an accident.
Hyundai Elantra. Key Ignition Switch

Whenever the front door is opened, the indicator lights up if the ignition key is not in the ON position. The light turns off immediately when the ignition is turned on, or turns off approximately 30 seconds after the door is closed. (If equipped)

WARNING

NEVER turn the ignition key to the LOCK or ACC position while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. This will stop the engine and cause loss of power steering and brake assist.

This may result in loss of directional control and braking function, which may cause an accident.

Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure the shift lever is in 1st gear (for vehicles with manual transmission) or P (Park, for vehicles with Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) / Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)), apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.

Failure to observe these precautions may result in unexpected vehicle movement.

NOTICE

NEVER use secondary key cylinder covers. This may cause a starting failure due to communication failure.
