Inspection

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the headliner. (Refer to Body - "Roof Trim")
  3. Disconnect the sunroof motor connector (A).
  4. Ground the terminals as shown in the table below, and check that the sunroof operates.
    • When checking the sunroof motor operation, the sunroof motor and the sunshade motor must always be connected.
  5. Perform these input tests at the connector. If any test indicates a problem, locate and repair the cause, then recheck the system. If all input tests are normal, the sunroof motor should be faulty; replace it.
    Terminal Test

    conditions
    Check continuity to ground:
    Continuity should be present.
    6 Under all
    conditions
    Check voltage to ground:
    Battery voltage should be present.

Sunroof Reset

Whenever the battery is disconnected or discharged, or you use the emergency handle to operate the sunroof, you must reset the sunroof system as follows:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and fully close the sunroof.
  2. Release the sunroof control lever.
  3. Press and hold the CLOSE button for more than 10 seconds until the sunroof closes and moves.
  4. Release the sunroof control lever.
  5. Press and hold the CLOSE button again for 5 seconds until the sunroof does the following:
    A. Tilt > Slide Open > Slide Close, then release the switch.
  6. The panoramic roof reset procedure is complete.
  7. The sunroof ECU determines the motor operating time.
  8. The motor can operate continuously for the 1st operating time (120 ± 10 sec.).
  9. Continuous motor operation stops after the 1st operating time (120 ± 10 sec.).
  10. The motor then does not operate for the 1st cooling time (18 ± 2 sec.).
  11. The motor operates for the 2nd operating time (10 ± 2 sec.) when motor operation continues after the 1st cooling time (18 ± 2 sec.).
  12. Continuous motor operation stops after the 2nd operating time (10 ± 2 sec.).
  13. The motor does not operate for the 2nd cooling time (18 ± 2 sec.).
  14. The motor repeats the 2nd operating time and 2nd cooling time while motor operation continues.
    A. If the motor does not operate continuously, the operating time is increased.
    B. The motor operating time resets to "0" if the battery or fuse is reconnected after being disconnected, discharged, or blown.
    T1: 120 ± 10 sec., T2: 18 ± 2 sec., T3: 10 ± 2 sec., T4: 18 ± 2 sec.
Motor Overheating Protection. To protect the sunroof motor from overheating during continuous operation, the sunroof ECU controls the operating time and cooling time of the motor as follows:
