The system helps you steer the vehicle. If the vehicle is turned off or if the power steering system becomes inoperative, you can still steer the vehicle, but it will require increased steering effort.
In addition, the steering wheel effort becomes heavier as vehicle speed increases and becomes lighter as vehicle speed decreases for better control of the steering wheel.
If you notice any change in the effort required to steer during normal vehicle operation, have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
CAUTION
- If the electronic power steering system does not operate normally, the warning light (
) will illuminate on the instrument cluster. You can still steer the vehicle, but it will require increased steering effort. Take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system checked as soon as possible. - If an abnormality is detected in the electronic power steering system, the steering assist function may become inoperative to prevent an accident. At this time, the warning light will illuminate or flash on the cluster. The steering wheel may become difficult to control or steer. Have your vehicle inspected immediately after moving the vehicle to a safe area.
Information
The following symptoms may occur during normal vehicle operation:
- Steering wheel effort may be high immediately after the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. This occurs while the system performs an EPS system diagnosis. When the diagnosis is complete, the steering wheel effort will return to its normal condition.
- When battery voltage is low, you may need to apply more effort to the steering wheel. However, this is a temporary condition, and it will return to normal after the battery is charged.
- A clicking sound may be heard from the EPS relay after the ignition switch is turned to the ON or LOCK/OFF position.
- A motor noise may be heard when the vehicle is parked or driven at low speed.
- When you operate the steering wheel at low temperatures, an abnormal noise may occur. If the temperature rises, the noise will disappear. This is a normal condition.
- If an error is detected in the EPS, the steering assist function may become inoperative to prevent a fatal accident. The instrument cluster warning lights may illuminate or the steering wheel effort may be high. If these symptoms occur, drive the vehicle to a safe location as soon as it is safe to do so. Have the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
