3. Fully open the fuel filler door (1).
4. To remove the fuel filler cap (2), turn it counterclockwise. You may hear a hissing sound as the pressure inside the tank equalizes.
5. Place the cap on the fuel filler door.
Information
Open and close the fuel tank cap using the handle on the cap for safety.
Information
If the fuel filler door does not open because ice has formed around it, tap lightly or press on the door to break the ice and release the door. Do not pry at the door. If necessary, spray around the door with an approved de-icing fluid (do not use engine coolant antifreeze), or move the vehicle to a warm place and allow the ice to melt.
Closing the Fuel Filler Door
1. To install the fuel filler cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks.
2. Close the fuel filler door until it is securely latched.
WARNING
Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. Failure to follow these instructions may result in SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
- Read and follow all warnings posted at the fueling station.
- Before refueling, note the location of the emergency gasoline shut-off, if available, at the station.
- Before touching the fuel nozzle, eliminate potential static electricity buildup by touching a metal part of the vehicle, a safe distance away from the filler neck, nozzle, or other source of gasoline, with your bare hand.
- Do not use mobile phones while refueling. Electrical current and/or electronic interference from cellular phones may potentially ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
- Do not re-enter the vehicle once you have started refueling. You may build up static electricity by touching, rubbing, or sliding against any object or fabric capable of generating static electricity. A static discharge may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. If you need to re-enter the vehicle, you must again eliminate the potentially dangerous static discharge by touching a metal part of the vehicle, away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other source of gasoline, with your bare hand.
- When refueling, always move the shift lever to P (Park), set the parking brake, and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK/OFF position.
- Sparks generated by electrical components related to the engine may ignite fuel vapors, causing a fire.
- When using an approved portable fuel container, always place the container on the ground before refueling. A static discharge from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. After refueling, begin contact between your bare hand and the vehicle, and keep the contact until filling is complete.
- Use only approved portable plastic fuel containers designed for transporting and storing gasoline.
- Do not use matches or a lighter, and do not smoke or leave a lit cigarette in your vehicle at a service station, especially during refueling.
- Do not overfill or top off the vehicle fuel tank, as this may cause gasoline to spill.
- If a fire occurs during refueling, leave the vehicle area immediately, notify the station attendant at once, and then contact the local fire department. Follow any safety instructions they provide.
- If pressurized fuel sprays out, it may cover your clothing or skin and thus expose you to the risk of ignition and burns. Always remove the fuel tank cap carefully and slowly. If fuel sprays from the cap or you hear a hissing sound, wait until the condition stops before fully removing the cap.
- Always make sure the fuel filler cap is installed securely to prevent fuel from spilling in the event of an accident.
Information
Be sure to refuel your vehicle in accordance with the "Fuel Requirements" provided in the Introduction chapter.
NOTICE
- Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the vehicle. Any type of fuel spilled on painted surfaces may damage the paint.
- If the fuel filler cap requires replacement, use only a genuine HYUNDAI cap or an equivalent cap specified for your vehicle. An incorrect fuel filler cap may cause serious malfunction of the fuel system or the emission control system.
