Catalytic Converter Operating Precautions

~1min read

A large amount of unburned fuel entering the catalytic converter may cause it to overheat and start a fire. To prevent this, carefully review the following precautions and explain their content to the vehicle owner.

1. Применяйте только неэтилированный бензин.

1. Use only unleaded gasoline.

2. Do not operate the engine at high speed for a long time while the vehicle is parked.

Do not run the engine at fast idle for more than 10 minutes, or at normal idle speed for more than 20 minutes.

3. Avoid checking high-tension cables for spark. Perform this check only when absolutely necessary.

Perform the high-tension cable spark check as quickly as possible.

During the check, do not run the engine at high speed.

4. Do not perform engine compression measurement for an extended period of time.

Perform the engine compression check as quickly as possible.

5. Do not start the engine when the fuel tank is almost empty. This may cause misfiring in the cylinders (ignition misfire) and place a significant load on the catalytic converter.

6. Do not allow the vehicle to coast with the ignition switched off, or during prolonged braking.

7. Do not store a used catalytic converter together with parts contaminated with gasoline or oil.
