VALVE SPRINGS

1. Measure the free length of each valve spring. If the spring length is less than the limit, replace the valve spring.

2. Using a square, check the spring tilt (out-of-squareness) of each valve spring relative to the perpendicular to the seat surface. If the out-of-squareness is greater than the service limit, replace the valve spring.

VALVE GUIDES

Check the clearance between the valve guide and the valve stem (at several points along the length). If the clearance is greater than the limit, replace the valve guide with a guide of the next oversize.

Valve guide-to-stem clearance:

[Standard] Intake valve: 0.03 - 0.06 mm Exhaust valve: 0.05 - 0.08 mm [Limit] Intake valve: 0.10 mm Exhaust valve: 0.15 mm
