Description

AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) is a function designed to avoid a collision or reduce damage from an accident that may occur due to late braking or insufficient braking force caused by driver inattention. The control sequence of the system is as follows.
  1. Detection of the vehicle ahead and analysis of data by the radar sensor of the Smart Cruise Control (SCC) system and the camera sensor of the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) (CAN communication)
  2. Check the vehicle for AEB control by analyzing sensor data
  3. Calculate the proper deceleration based on the presence, speed, and distance of the vehicle ahead
  4. Transmit the calculated "required deceleration" to the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (CAN communication)
  5. ESC performs brake control after calculating the torque required to achieve the "required deceleration" (CAN communication)

Operation

* The times shown in the figure depend on vehicle speed.
  • Step 1: Visual (display) warning is provided when a collision risk is detected.
  • Step 2: Audible and tactile (steering wheel vibration) warnings are provided. Engine torque reduction and automatic braking are performed as the collision risk increases.
  • Step 3: Emergency braking is performed when a collision is imminent. After automatic braking: brake control is released after maintaining braking power for a set time.
Braking force varies depending on the collision risk level, but automatic control is cancelled immediately once the driver's collision-avoidance action is recognized.
  1. It does not enter the Step 3 warning state when driving at speeds above 80 km/h.
  • Full automatic braking and full seat belt-fastened braking cannot be performed.
  1. Step 3 is performed after the warning sounds when driving straight and on gently curved roads at speeds below 80 km/h.
  • However, a collision may occur at medium-high speeds above 30 km/h, depending on road surface conditions.
  1. Vehicle speed is reduced by automatic braking after the audible warning when driving on a straight road and on a gently curved road below 180 km/h.
  2. Collision avoidance is not possible at speeds above 80 km/h, and the overlap must be less than 50%.
  3. It detects a vehicle moving backward and an approaching vehicle.
Overlap: the non-intersecting speed on the line between the vehicle and the vehicle traveling ahead.
  1. 0% Overlap:
  2. 100% Overlap:
