Replacement
Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
Recover the refrigerant using a recovery/recycling/charging station.
When the engine has cooled, drain the engine coolant from the radiator. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Coolant")
Remove the upper hood cover. (Refer to Body - "Upper Cover Panel")
Remove the bolts and the expansion valve (A) from the evaporator core.
Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to prevent moisture and dust from entering.
When installing, replace the O-ring with a new one.
Disconnect the heater inlet (A) and outlet (B) hoses from the heater unit.
Engine coolant will drain when the hoses are disconnected. Drain it into a clean pan. Be careful not to spill coolant on electrical parts or painted surfaces. If coolant is spilled, wash it off immediately.
Loosen the hood cross member bolts.
Remove the front seat assembly. (Refer to Body - "Front Seat Assembly")
Remove the main crash pad. (Refer to Body - "Crash Pad")
Disconnect the steering column connectors. (Refer to Steering System - "Steering Column and Shaft")
Pull the steering column down after loosening the mounting bolts and through bolts. (Refer to Steering System - "Steering Column and Shaft")
Remove the shift lever assembly. (Refer to Automatic Transmission System - "Shift Lever")
Disconnect the connector (A) of the SRS control module (SRSCM).
Disconnect the connectors of the junction box (A).
Disconnect the connectors of the multi-box (A). [LHD][RHD]
Disconnect the connectors (A) and the wire clips on the front pillar. [LHD][RHD]
After loosening the bolts, remove the main crash pad and hood cross member assembly (A) together.
Separate the blower unit (A) from the heater unit (B) after loosening the screws.
Loosen the screws and remove the heater radiator cover (A).
Pull out the heater core (A) from the heater unit.
Loosen the mounting screws of the lower heater cover.
Remove the lower cover (A).
Pull out the evaporator core (A) from the heater unit.
Be careful not to bend the inlet and outlet pipes during evaporator core removal/installation.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
If installing a new evaporator core, add compressor oil (PAG oil).
Replace the O-rings with new ones at each fitting and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil before installation. Be sure to use the correct O-rings for R-134a to prevent leakage.
Immediately after use, close the container with its cap to prevent moisture absorption.
Do not spill refrigerant oil on the vehicle; it may damage the paint. If refrigerant oil gets on the paint, wipe it off immediately.
Apply sealant to the bushings.
Check that there is no air leakage.
Charge the system and check that it operates properly.
Do not confuse the heater inlet and outlet hoses, and tighten the hose clamps securely.
Fill the cooling system with engine coolant.
