Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the auto defog actuator connector.
  3. Check that the defogger actuator operates to the open position when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and terminal 4 is grounded. Check that the defogger actuator operates to the closed position when the connections are reversed.

  4. Connect the defogger actuator connector.
  5. Turn the ignition on.
  6. Check the voltage between terminals 6 and 5. Specification
Door Position Voltage (V) Fault Detection
    Anti-Fog OFF (Close) 1,0 ± 0,15 Low voltage: 0.1 V or less
    Anti-Fog ON (Open) 4,7 ± 0,15 High voltage: 4.9 V or more

It will report the current actuator position to the controls.
  7. If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, replace the anti-fog actuator with a known good one and check for proper operation.
  8. Replace the anti-fog actuator if it is determined to be faulty.

Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the main lower airbag unit. (Refer to Body - "Main Lower Airbag Assembly")
  3. Disconnect the connector, then remove the anti-fog actuator (A) after loosening the mounting screws.
