What to Do in an Emergency

Low Tire Pressure Location and Tire Pressure Warning

~2min read

When the TPMS warning light illuminates and a warning message is displayed on the cluster LCD, one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. The low tire pressure location indicator will show which tire is significantly under-inflated by illuminating the corresponding position light.

If any warning light illuminates, reduce speed immediately, avoid sharp turns and anticipate longer braking distances. You should stop and check your tires as soon as possible. Inflate the tires to the proper pressure indicated on the vehicle placard or tire pressure label located on the driver's side center pillar.

If you cannot reach a service station or if the tire cannot hold the newly added air, replace the under-inflated tire with the spare tire.

The Low Tire Pressure warning light will stay on, and the TPMS malfunction indicator may flash for approximately one minute and then remain illuminated (when the vehicle has been driven for approximately 20 minutes at speeds above 15.5 mph (25 km/h)) until the tire pressure is corrected or the tire is replaced.

✽ NOTICE

The spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure sensor.

CAUTION

In winter or cold weather, the Low Tire Pressure telltale may illuminate if the tire pressure was adjusted to the recommended tire pressure in warm weather. This does not mean that your TPMS is malfunctioning, because a drop in temperature causes a proportional decrease in tire pressure.

When you drive your vehicle from a warm area to a cold area, or from a cold area to a warm area, or if the outside temperature changes significantly, you should check the tire pressure and adjust the tires to the recommended tire pressure.

WARNING

Driving with significantly low tire pressure makes the vehicle unstable and may result in loss of vehicle control and increased braking distance.

Continued driving on a low tire may cause the tire to overheat and fail.
