Protecting a child restraint with a three-point seat belt

When ISOFIX anchorages are not used, all child seats must be secured to the rear seat of the vehicle using the lap portion of the seat belt.

WARNING DO NOT install a rearward-facing child restraint on the rear seats of the vehicle. Installing a rearward-facing child seat on the front passenger seat may cause serious injury or death if the child seat is struck by the airbag.

Installing a child restraint with a three-point seat belt

To install a child restraint in the rear seat, proceed as follows:

1. Place the restraint on the rear seat and route the belt around or through the restraint, following the manufacturer's instructions.

Make sure the belt webbing is not twisted.

2. Insert the belt tongue into the buckle. Make sure you hear it click.

NOTE

Position the release button so that it is easily accessible in an emergency.

3. Remove as much slack from the belt as possible by pressing down on the restraint while the shoulder belt retracts.

4. Push and pull the child seat to check that the seat belt is held firmly in place.

To remove the child seat, press the release button on the buckle, then pull the seat belt out of the child seat and allow the belt to retract fully.
