SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
The LDWS consists of the following components:

The LDWS camera unit performs the following function when it receives the video signal.
  • Lane detection and analysis
  • The Lane Departure Warning System transmits information via high-speed CAN communication.
  1. Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) unit
The Lane Departure Warning System is a practical device that recognizes the lane ahead using the camera image and vehicle signal information, and warns of lane departure. It consists of a camera unit and recognizes the lane by processing the camera image input signal. The image processing sensor module determines the lane by detecting the lane ahead on the camera unit in order to keep track, and calculates the main parameters, namely offset from the vehicle center, road width, steering wheel angle of the vehicle and road curvature. The following procedures describe the lane recognition process by image processing.
    1. Road surface detection during image capture
    2. Filtering and calculation for lane extraction
    3. Extraction of lane candidate points (constituent points evaluated as lane)
    4. Ground detection using candidate points
  2. LDWS operation process. When the LDWS switch is pressed, the operating status of the lane departure warning system is displayed in the center, and the LDWS indicator is activated. The specific display classification is shown in the following table.
Category Operation LDWS warning and display
    Order
    (Button)
    WE LDWS ON
Visual warning: The white lane departure indicator flashes (if equipped with Super Vision instrument cluster).

※ As shown above, the instrument cluster indication is displayed only on models equipped with the Super Vision instrument cluster with LCD display. The LDWS symbol is used for the visual warning on the standard instrument cluster since there is no LCD monitor. (The warning sound is the same for the standard system and the Super Vision system.)
    OFF LDWS OFF
    Operating Condition Group indicator
Operating Condition Activated when the vehicle speed exceeds the set speed with LDWS on.

    [Start: 60 km/h ↑]
    [Stop: 55 km/h ↓]

※ The lane departure warning is not activated when the turn signals or hazard warning lights are on.
  3. Visual warning: The lane departure indicator flashes white. (If equipped with Super Vision instrument cluster)
  4. The LDWS switch must be on. The LDWS indicator illuminates on the instrument panel when the switch is on.
  5. It operates when the LDWS function is engaged and vehicle speed exceeds 60 km/(38 mph) h. The warning function is temporarily stopped when vehicle speed drops below 55–60 km/h, and the warning is reactivated when it exceeds 70 km/h.
  6. It does not issue a warning when the left and right turn signals are operating. The lane departure warning function restarts after a 2-second interruption following the left or right turn signal. The lane departure warning function is also stopped when the backup lamp is operating.
  7. Turn on the turn signal switch and change lanes to change lanes. Changing lanes unintentionally without turning on the turn signal lamp in the direction of travel generates a warning.
  8. A warning is issued when more than 40% of the vehicle has crossed the lane marking, by detecting lane departure without a lane change.
  9. The lane departure warning does not operate while the vehicle is driving in the center of the lane.
LDWS ON/OFF switch. When the LDWS switch is pressed, the LDWS is activated while the LDWS indicator is illuminated. When the LDWS switch is pressed again, the LDWS is deactivated and the LDWS indicator goes off. LDWS warning method. LDWS operating conditions. The LDWS operating conditions are listed below.
