Trailer hitch

Trailer hitches

It is important to use a suitable hitch. A suitable trailer hitch is required under the following conditions: crosswinds, passing large trucks, and rough roads (this list is not exhaustive). Observe the following rules:

  • Do you need to drill holes in your vehicle's body to install a trailer hitch? If so, be sure to seal them when you remove it. If not, deadly carbon monoxide (CO) from the exhaust, as well as dirt and water, may enter the vehicle.
  • The bumpers of your vehicle are not designed to accept hooks. Do not attach removable hooks or other attachments to the bumpers. Use only a hook attached to the frame, not to the bumper.
  • You will find a HYUNDAI-approved trailer hitch at an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Trailer hitches

You must always attach safety chains between the vehicle and the trailer. Cross the chains under the trailer tongue so that the drawbar will not drop to the road if it separates from the hitch ball. The safety chain instructions must be provided by the towing hitch or trailer manufacturer. To attach the chains, follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Always adjust the chains so that they are still slack enough to allow you to turn with the trailer. Never let the safety chains drag on the ground.

Trailer Brakes

If your trailer is equipped with a braking system, make sure that it complies with the regulations of your country, that it is installed correctly and that it operates properly.

If your trailer exceeds the maximum weight of a trailer without brakes, it requires its own brakes, which must be adapted. Be sure to read and follow the trailer brake instructions so that you know how to install, adjust and maintain them correctly. Do not interfere with your vehicle's braking system.

WARNING

Do not use a trailer equipped with its own braking system unless you are completely sure that you have adjusted the brake system correctly. This work must be performed by a specialist. Contact an experienced and knowledgeable workshop specializing in trailers.
