Folding the Rear Seat

The rear seatbacks can be folded down to make it easier to carry long items or to increase the cargo capacity of the vehicle.

WARNING

  • Never allow passengers to sit on the upper part of a folded seatback while the vehicle is moving. This is not a proper seating position, and seat belts are not available for use. This may result in serious injury or death in the event of a collision or sudden stop.
  • Items carried with the seatback folded must not extend above the top of the front seatbacks. This may allow cargo to slide forward and cause injury or damage during sudden stops.

5. To use the rear seat, lift and push the seatback rearward.

Push firmly on the seatback until it locks into place. Make sure the seatback is locked.

WARNING

When returning the rear seatback from the folded position to the upright position, hold the seatback and return it slowly. Be careful not to damage the seat belt straps or buckles. Do not allow the seat belt straps or buckles to be caught or pinched in the rear seat. Make sure the seatback is fully locked in its upright position by pressing on the upper part of the seatback. In a collision or sudden stop, an unlocked seatback may allow cargo to move forward with great force and enter the passenger compartment, which may result in serious injury or death.

CAUTION

Rear Seat Belts

When returning the rear seatback to the upright position, be sure to return the rear shoulder belts to their proper position.

WARNING

Do not place objects behind the seat, as they cannot be properly secured and may strike vehicle occupants in a collision, resulting in serious injury or death.

WARNING

Make sure the engine is off, the shift lever is in P (Park), and the parking brake is firmly applied when loading or unloading cargo. Failure to follow these steps may allow the vehicle to move if the shift lever is accidentally moved out of position.
