Opening the Fuel Filler Door

The fuel filler door can be opened from inside the vehicle by pressing the fuel filler door opener switch.

1. Turn the vehicle off.

2. Press the fuel filler door opener button.

3. Wait for the fuel tank pressure to be released.

The message "Fuel Filler Door Open" is displayed when the fuel filler door is opened after the fuel tank has been depressurized.

Information

• Opening the fuel filler door may take up to 20 seconds.
• If the fuel filler door is frozen and does not open after 20 seconds in freezing temperatures, lightly tap the fuel filler door, then try to open it again.

4. Fully open the fuel filler door (1).

5. To remove the fuel filler cap (2), turn it counterclockwise. You may hear a hissing sound as the pressure inside the tank equalizes.

6. Install the cap onto the fuel filler neck.

WARNING

• Complete refueling within 20 minutes after opening the fuel filler door. After 20 minutes, the fuel tank may shut off, causing fuel to overflow. In this case, press the fuel filler door opener button again.
• Do not leave the fuel filler door open for an extended period. This may discharge the battery.
• Close the fuel filler door after refueling the vehicle. If you start the vehicle with the fuel filler door open, the message "Check Fuel Filler Door" will appear on the LCD display.
• Avoid refueling the vehicle while charging the high-voltage hybrid battery. This may cause a fire or explosion due to static electricity.
