4. Pull out the prop rod and hold the hood open with the prop rod (3).

WARNING

  • Hold the prop rod at the rubber-covered area. The rubber will help prevent you from being burned by hot metal when the engine is hot.
  • The support rod must be fully inserted into its holder whenever you inspect the engine compartment. This will prevent the hood from falling and possibly injuring you.

Hood Closing

1. Before closing the hood, check the following:

  • All engine compartment filler caps must be installed correctly.
  • Gloves, rags, and any other flammable materials must be removed from the engine compartment.

2. Lower the hood halfway (approximately 12 in (30 cm) above the fully closed position) and press down to securely latch it. Then check twice to make sure the hood is secure. If the hood can be lifted slightly, it is not latched. Open it again and close it with more force.

WARNING

  • Before closing the hood, make sure all obstacles around the hood opening area have been removed.
  • Always check twice that the hood is securely latched before driving. Make sure the hood warning light or the hood open message is not illuminated on the instrument cluster. Driving with the hood open may cause a complete loss of visibility, which may lead to an accident.
  • Do not drive the vehicle with the hood raised. If the hood is not latched, it may fall or be damaged, and may cause an accident.
