Battery Charging
Using a Battery Charger
Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free calcium-based battery.
- If the battery is discharged quickly (for example, because the headlights or interior lights were left on while the vehicle was not in use), charge it with a slow charge (trickle) for 10 hours.
- If the battery is gradually discharged due to high electrical load while the vehicle is in use, charge it at 20-30 A for two hours.
WARNING
Always follow these instructions when charging your vehicle's battery to avoid the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH from explosion or acid burns:
- Before performing maintenance or recharging the battery, turn off all accessories and set the engine START/STOP button to the OFF position.
- Keep all sources of fire, sparks, or smoking materials away from the battery.
- Always work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
- Wear safety glasses when checking the battery during charging.
- The battery must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a well-ventilated area.
- Monitor the battery during charging, and stop or reduce the charging rate if the battery cells begin to boil vigorously.
- When disconnecting the battery, the negative battery cable must be removed first and installed last. Disconnect the charger in the following order:
(1) Turn off the charger main switch.
(2) Disconnect the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal.
(3) Disconnect the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal. - When replacing the battery, always use an original HYUNDAI-approved battery.
CAUTION
AGM Battery (if equipped)
- AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries are maintenance-free. HYUNDAI recommends that AGM battery service be performed by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. To charge an AGM battery, use only a fully automatic charger specifically designed for AGM batteries.
- When replacing an AGM battery, HYUNDAI recommends using replacement parts from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
- Do not open or remove the cover on the top of the battery. This may cause internal electrolyte leakage, which may result in serious injury.
Jump Starting
After jump starting from a good battery, drive the vehicle for 20-30 minutes before turning it off. The vehicle may not restart if you turn it off before the battery has been adequately recharged. For more information, refer to "Jump Starting" in chapter 6 regarding jump starting procedures.
Information
Improper battery disposal can harm the environment and human health.
Dispose of the battery in accordance with local laws or regulations.
