Driving Your Vehicle

System Limitations

~2min read

The LKA system may activate prematurely even if the vehicle has not drifted from the selected lane, OR the LKA system may not assist you in steering or warn you if the vehicle leaves the intended lane in the following cases:

When the lane and road conditions are poor

  • Lane markings are difficult to distinguish from the road surface, or lane markings are faded or unclearly marked.
  • The color of the lane markings is difficult to distinguish from the road.
  • The road surface has markings similar to lane markings that are accidentally detected by the camera.
  • Lane markings are merged or divided (for example, at a toll gate).
  • The number of lanes increases or decreases, or lane markings are difficult to cross.
  • There are more than two lanes ahead on the road.
  • The lane marking is very thick or thin.
  • Lanes ahead are not visible due to rain, snow, water on the road, damaged or painted road surface, or other factors.
  • A shadow falls on the lane markings from a median strip, trees, etc.
  • Lanes are incomplete or the section is in a construction zone.
  • There are crosswalk signs or other symbols on the road.
  • The lane markings in a tunnel are soiled with oil, etc.
  • The lane suddenly disappears, e.g., at an intersection.

When external conditions interfere

  • The brightness outside changes suddenly, e.g., when entering or exiting a tunnel or passing under a bridge.
  • External brightness is too low, for example, when headlights are not on at night or the vehicle is driving through a tunnel.
  • There are roadside structures such as concrete barriers, guardrails, and reflector posts that are accidentally detected by the camera.
  • When light from a street lamp or an oncoming vehicle is reflected on a wet road surface, such as a puddle.
  • The forward field of view is limited by sun glare.
  • The distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead is not sufficient for the system to detect the lane markings or the vehicle ahead based on the lane markings.
  • Driving on a steep slope, hill, or winding road.
  • Adverse road conditions cause excessive vehicle vibration while driving.
  • High temperature around the inside rearview mirror due to direct sunlight, etc.

When forward visibility is poor

  • The windshield or LKAS camera lens is covered with dirt or debris.
  • The windshield is fogged; clear view of the road is obstructed.
  • Placing objects on the instrument panel, etc.
  • The sensor cannot detect the lane due to fog, heavy rain, or snow.
