Towing a Trailer (For Europe)

~2min read

If you plan to tow a trailer, first check the legal requirements. Because laws change towing requirements, trailers, caravans, or other types of vehicles or equipment may differ. Contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer for more information before towing.

Remember that towing a trailer is different from simply driving the vehicle. A trailer affects handling, durability, and fuel economy. Successful, safe towing requires the proper equipment and must be done correctly. Damage to your vehicle caused by improper trailer towing is not covered by the vehicle manufacturer's warranty.

This section contains many time-tested important tips and safety rules. Many of them are important for your safety and the safety of your passengers. Please read this section carefully before towing a trailer.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions:

  • If you use improper equipment and/or drive incorrectly, you may lose control of the vehicle while towing a trailer. For example, if the trailer is too heavy, braking efficiency may decrease. You and your passengers could suffer serious or fatal injuries. Tow a trailer only after you have completed all steps in this section.
  • Before towing, make sure that the trailer weight, Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR), and trailer tongue load are all within specifications.
  • When towing a trailer, be sure to turn off the ISG system.

Information - For Europe

  • The technically permissible maximum load on the rear axle(s) may be exceeded by no more than 15%, and the technically permissible maximum laden mass of the vehicle may be exceeded by no more than 10% or 100 kg (220.4 lb), whichever is less. In this case, do not exceed a speed of 100 km/h for an M1 category vehicle or 80 km/h for an N1 category vehicle.
  • When towing a trailer with an M1 category vehicle, the additional load on the towing hitch may cause the maximum tire load capacity to be exceeded, but by no more than 15%. In this case, do not exceed a speed of 100 km/h (62 mph) and increase the tire pressure by at least 0.2 bar.
