Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

~2min read

The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system with a windshield-mounted camera helps detect lane markings on the road and assists the driver in keeping the vehicle centered between the lanes.

When the system detects that the vehicle is drifting out of its lane, it warns the driver with a visual and audible warning and applies a small counter-steering torque, attempting to prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane.

WARNING

The Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system does not replace safe driving practices and is a convenience feature. The driver is responsible for always monitoring the surroundings and controlling the vehicle.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions when using the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system:

  • Do not turn the steering wheel abruptly while the system is steering the steering wheel.
  • The LKA system helps prevent the driver from unintentionally leaving the lane by assisting the driver in steering. However, the driver should not rely solely on the system and must always keep their attention on the steering wheel to stay in the lane.
  • LKA system operation may be cancelled or may not function properly depending on road and surrounding conditions. Always drive with caution.
  • Do not disassemble the LKA system camera to temporarily tint the window or attach any type of coatings or accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reassembled, we recommend that you take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to have the system checked for calibration.
  • When replacing the windshield, the LKA system camera, or related steering wheel parts, we recommend that you take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to have the system checked for calibration.
  • The system detects lane markings and controls the steering wheel using the camera, so if the markings are difficult to detect, the system may not operate properly. Please refer to the "System Limitations" section.
  • Do not remove or damage the related parts of the LKA system.
  • You may not hear the LKA system warning sound due to excessive audio volume.
  • Do not place reflective items such as mirrors, white paper, etc. on the instrument panel. The system may malfunction if sunlight is reflected.
  • Always keep your hands on the steering wheel when the LKA system is activated. If you continue driving without holding the steering wheel after the warning message "Keep Hands on Steering Wheel" appears, the system will turn off automatically.
  • The steering wheel is not controlled continuously, so if the vehicle speed is high when leaving the lane, the vehicle may become uncontrollable by the system. The driver should always observe the speed limit when using the system.
  • If you attach items to the steering wheel, the system may not assist steering or the "Hands Off" warning may malfunction.
  • When towing a trailer, be sure to turn off the LKA system.
