Blade Inspection

Contamination of the windshield or wiper blades with foreign substances may reduce the effectiveness of the wiper function. Common sources of contamination are insects, tree sap, and hot wax treatments used by some commercial car washes. If the blades do not wipe properly, wash both the windshield and the blades with a clean cloth dampened with washer fluid.

NOTICE

To avoid damaging the wiper blades, arms, or other components, do not:

  • Use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near them.
  • Attempt to move the wipers by hand.
  • Use wiper blades other than those specified.

Information

Commercial hot waxes applied automatically at some car washes are known to make the windshield difficult to clean.

Blade Replacement

When the wipers no longer clean adequately, the blades may be worn or cracked and must be replaced.

NOTICE

To avoid damage to the wiper arms or other components, do not attempt to move the wipers by hand.

NOTICE

Using a wiper blade other than the specified type may result in wiper malfunction and failure.

NOTICE

  • To prevent damage to the hood and wiper arms, raise the wiper arms only to the upper service position.
  • Always return the wiper arms to the windshield before driving.

Wiper Service Position

This vehicle has a "hidden" wiper design, which means the wiper arms cannot be raised when they are in their lower rest position.

1. Within 20 seconds after turning the engine off, raise and hold the wiper lever up in the MIST position for about 2 seconds until the wiper arms move to the upper service position.

2. In this position, the wiper arms can be raised from the windshield.

3. Carefully lower the wiper arms onto the windshield.

4. Turn the ignition ON and turn the wipers to return them to the lower rest position.
