Snow Chains

Since the sidewalls of radial tires are thinner than other tire types, installing certain types of chains may damage them.
In addition, using winter tires is preferable to using chains. Do not install chains on vehicles with aluminum wheels. If you need to use chains, select metal chains. If you need to use cables, select HYUNDAI cables and read the instructions before installation.
Damage to the vehicle resulting from improper use of chains is not covered by the vehicle manufacturer's warranty.
WARNING
Using chains may affect vehicle handling:
- Drive at a speed less than 30 km/h or at the speed recommended by the chain manufacturer, whichever is lower.
- Drive carefully and avoid speed bumps, potholes, narrow turns, and rough roads that may shake the vehicle.
- Avoid sharp turns and sudden braking.
Information
- Install chains on the front wheels. Installing chains will provide greater driving force but will not prevent skidding.
- Before installing studded tires, check the regulations with local and municipal authorities to be informed of possible usage restrictions.
Installing Snow Chains
When installing chains, follow the chain manufacturer's instructions and tighten them as much as possible. Drive slowly (less than 30 km/h) once the chains are in place. If you hear the chains striking the frame or body, stop and tighten them. If contact continues, reduce speed until the noise stops. Remove the chains as soon as you drive on roads where they are no longer needed.
When installing chains, stop the vehicle on a level surface away from traffic. Turn on the hazard warning flashers and, if possible, place a warning triangle behind the vehicle (if equipped).
Before installing snow chains, always place the shift lever in the P (Park) position, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
NOTICE
When using cable chains:
- Chains of incorrect size or improperly installed chains may damage brake lines, suspension, body, or wheels.
- Use SAE Class "S" chains or metal chains.
- If you hear chains striking the frame or body, stop and retighten them.
- To avoid body damage, retighten the chains every 500 m to 1 km (0.3 to 0.6 mi).
- Do not use chains on vehicles with aluminum wheels. If you must use them, select metal chains.
- Use metal chains less than 15 mm (0.59 in) wide to avoid damaging the attachment system.
