Tire Replacement
WARNING
The vehicle may slip or fall off the jack and cause serious injury or death to you or others nearby. Observe the following precautions:
- Never get under a vehicle supported by a jack.
- NEVER attempt to change a tire on a traffic lane. ALWAYS park the vehicle off the road, on a level, stable surface away from traffic before attempting to change a tire. If you cannot find a suitable location, have your vehicle towed.
- Use only the jack supplied with the vehicle.
- ALWAYS place the jack at the specified jacking points and NEVER under the bumper or any other part of the vehicle.
- Do not start the engine or allow it to run while the vehicle is on a jack.
- Do not leave people inside the vehicle while it is on a jack.
- Keep children away from the road and the vehicle.
To change a tire, perform the following steps:
1. Park the vehicle on a level, stable surface.
2. Shift the gear selector to P (automatic transmission) or into gear (manual transmission), apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF.
3. Press the hazard warning light button.
4. Remove the wheel wrench, jack, jack handle, and spare tire from your vehicle.

5. Chock the front and rear wheels diagonally opposite the tire you are changing.

6. Loosen the wheel nuts one turn counterclockwise, following the sequence shown above, but do not remove them until the tire is lifted.

7. Place the jack at the specified jacking point under the body as close as possible to the tire you are changing. The jacking points are plates welded to the frame flange with two notches and two recesses. Never place the jack anywhere else. You may damage the side moldings.

8. Insert the handle into the jack and turn it clockwise until the wheel is off the ground. Make sure the vehicle is stable on the jack.
9. Loosen the wheel nuts with the wheel wrench and remove them by hand. Remove the wheel from the studs and place it on the ground. Remove any foreign matter or debris from the studs, mounting surfaces, and wheel.
10. Install the spare wheel onto the hub studs.
11. Hand-tighten the wheel nuts onto the studs, with the tapered end facing the wheel.
12. Turn the jack handle counterclockwise to lower the vehicle.

13. Tighten the wheel nuts in the specified sequence using the wheel wrench. Check that the nuts are tightened twice. When changing a tire, we recommend having the wheel nut torque checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. The wheel nuts must be tightened to 9-11 kg·m (65-79 lb·ft).
If you have a tire pressure gauge (see "Tires and Wheels" in Chapter 8 for pressure information), check the tire pressure. If it is lower or higher than the recommended value, drive slowly to the nearest service station and adjust the pressure to the recommended value. Be sure to reinstall the valve cap after checking or adjusting the tire pressure to prevent air leakage. If you lose the valve cap, purchase a new one and install it as soon as possible. After replacing the tire, store the flat tire and replace the jack and tools.
NOTICE
Check the tire pressure as soon as possible after installing the spare tire. Adjust the pressure to the recommended value.
WARNING
The wheel studs and wheel nuts on your vehicle have metric threads. Always use the same type of nuts when replacing a wheel. If you need to replace the wheel nuts, be sure to use metric nuts to avoid damaging the studs, and check that the wheel is firmly secured to the hub. We recommend that you use an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
If parts such as the jack, wheel nuts, studs, or other components are damaged or in poor condition, do not attempt to replace the tire. Contact a service center.
