Trailer Towing Maintenance

~1min read

Your vehicle will require more frequent maintenance if you regularly tow a trailer.

Monitor engine oil, automatic transmission fluid, axle oil, and engine coolant closely. Also check the brakes regularly. If you are towing a trailer, be sure to perform these checks before starting your trip. Do not forget to maintain your trailer and hitch system. Follow the maintenance schedule provided with the trailer and check it regularly. It is recommended to perform maintenance tasks in the morning of each day of driving. Be sure to tighten every hitch bolt and screw.

NOTICE

To avoid damage to the vehicle:

  • Due to the heavier towing load when using a trailer, overheating may occur in hot weather or on hills. If the coolant temperature gauge indicates overheating, turn off the air conditioner and stop the vehicle in a safe place to cool the engine.
  • When towing a trailer, check the automatic transmission fluid level regularly.
  • If your vehicle is not equipped with air conditioning, install a condenser fan to improve engine performance when you are towing a trailer.
