Highway Driving Assist System Malfunction

When the Highway Driving Assist system is not operating properly, a "Check Highway Driving Assist (HDA)" warning message may appear and the warning indicator may illuminate on the instrument cluster. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING

Always check road conditions and take appropriate measures to drive safely. Highway Driving Assist is only a convenience feature and is not a self-driving or autonomous driving system.

To avoid serious injury or death:

  • Always keep your hands on the steering wheel while driving.
  • Always watch the road and pay attention. It is your responsibility to obey traffic laws.
  • The Highway Driving Assist system may not function properly. It may not be able to recognize all road situations and may fail to detect a possible collision hazard. Obstacles such as vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, or unspecified objects or structures (for example, guardrails and toll booths) may not be detected.
  • Highway Driving Assist automatically turns off in the following situations:
    - You are driving on roads where Highway Driving Assist does not function, such as rest areas, intersections, junctions, etc.
    - The navigation system is not operating properly, such as when the navigation system is updating or restarting.
  • Highway Driving Assist may turn on or off unintentionally depending on road conditions (based on navigation system information) and surroundings.
  • The Lane Following Assist system may be temporarily deactivated when the front camera cannot properly detect the lane lines, or a manual shut-off warning appears.
  • The manual shut-off warning message may appear early or late depending on how the steering wheel is held or road conditions.
  • You may not hear the Highway Driving Assist audible warning if the surrounding environment is too noisy.
  • When your vehicle is traveling at high speed through a curve, your vehicle may leave its lane if you do not maintain control.
  • When you are towing a trailer or another vehicle, Highway Driving Assist will be disabled.
  • Highway Driving Assist may not function immediately after the engine is started or when the sensors or navigation system are being initialized.

Highway Driving Assist Limitations

The Highway Driving Assist system may not operate normally or may not function if:

  • The map information differs from actual road conditions because the navigation system has not been updated, or there is a real-time GPS or map data error.
  • The infotainment system is overloaded by simultaneously performing functions such as route search, video playback, voice recognition, etc.
  • GPS signals are blocked in an area such as a tunnel.
  • You deviate from the navigation route, or the destination route has been changed or cancelled.
  • Your vehicle arrives at a service station or rest area.
  • Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is in operation.
  • The navigation system cannot detect the current position of the vehicle (for example, on an elevated road, including an overpass next to public roads, or when roads run parallel nearby).
  • A vehicle with a trailer or towing hitch is connected to your vehicle.
