Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist Malfunction

If Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist does not operate properly, the "Check Rear Cross Traffic Safety System" warning message may appear, andthe warning light may illuminate on the instrument cluster. Have the system inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

If the side mirror indicator does not operate properly, the "Check Side Mirror Indicator" warning message may appear andthe warning light may illuminate on the instrument cluster. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist Disabled

If the rear corner radar is blocked or obstructed, or if the rear bumper around the rear corner radar or sensor is covered with foreign material such as snow, rain, or mud, or when a trailer or towing hitch is installed, detection performance may decrease, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be temporarily limited or disabled.

The rear cross-traffic safety system is not functioning properly. The "Radar Blocked" warning message may appear on the instrument cluster.

The system operates normally when such foreign material, trailer, or carrier is removed and the engine is restarted.

If the system does not operate normally after anything covering or blocking the sensors is removed, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may malfunction even if there is no warning message or warning light on the instrument cluster.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may malfunction in open spaces where no objects are detected (for example, an empty parking lot), or when the detection sensors are blocked immediately after the engine is started.
  • Always turn off Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist when towing a trailer or using a towing hitch carrier.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist Limitations

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may malfunction or may activate unexpectedly if:

  • Backing out from where trees or grass are overgrown.
  • Backing out from where the roads are wet.
  • The speed of the approaching vehicle is too fast or too slow.

The brakes cannot be applied if:

  • Your vehicle vibrates heavily while driving on a bumpy road, uneven road, or concrete section.
  • You are driving on a slippery surface due to snow, puddles, ice, etc.
  • Tire pressure is low or any tire is damaged.
  • The brake system has been adjusted to settings different from the factory specification.
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist is in operation (if equipped).

Information

For more information on the limitations of the rear corner radar, refer to "Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)" in this chapter.

WARNING

  • Driving near a vehicle or structure

A : Vehicle

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be limited while driving next to another vehicle or structure, and it may not detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right. In this case, the function may not activate the warning or brake your vehicle.

Always check your surroundings while backing up.

  • When your vehicle is in a parking complex

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may detect vehicles driving, parking, or exiting next to your vehicle (for example, a vehicle left beside you, parking, or exiting behind your vehicle, or a vehicle approaching your vehicle while turning). If this occurs, the function may activate the warning and brake your vehicle even when not necessary.

Always check your surroundings while backing up.

  • When your vehicle is parked diagonally

A : Vehicle

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be limited when driving uphill or on a diagonal slope, and it may not detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right. In this case, the function may not activate the warning or brake the vehicle.

Always check your surroundings while backing up.

  • When your vehicle is on or near a slope

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be limited when your vehicle is on an uphill or downhill slope, and it may not detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right. If this occurs, the function may activate the warning and brake your vehicle even when not necessary.

Always check your surroundings while backing up.

  • When backing into a parking space with a structure

A : Vehicle, B : Wall

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may detect passing vehicles in front of you when reversing into a parking space with a wall or structure at the rear or side. If this occurs, the function may activate the warning or brake your vehicle.

Always check your surroundings while backing up.

  • When your vehicle is parked in reverse

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may detect passing vehicles behind you when reversing into a parking space. If this occurs, the function may activate the warning and brake your vehicle even when not necessary.

Always check your surroundings while backing up.

WARNING

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate normally if there is interference from strong electromagnetic waves.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate for 3 seconds immediately after starting your vehicle or while the rear corner radars are initializing.
