Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist Operation
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist can warn and control your vehicle depending on the degree of collision risk.

To warn you of an approaching vehicle from the rear left or right of your vehicle, the warning light on the side mirror may flash, a warning message may appear on the instrument cluster, and a warning sound may be heard.
When the rear view monitor is operating, a warning may appear on the infotainment system screen.
The collision warning may activate if:
- You shift into R (Reverse) and your vehicle speed is below 5 mph (8 km/h).
- An approaching vehicle is detected within approximately 82 ft (25 m) from the left or right of your vehicle.
- The speed of the approaching vehicle from the left or right is above 3 mph (5 km/h).
Information
- If the operating conditions are met, the warning is provided whenever your vehicle is approached from the left or right, even if your vehicle speed is 0 km/h.
- Images and colors on the instrument cluster may differ depending on the cluster type or the theme selected in the Settings menu.
Emergency Braking

To warn you of an approaching vehicle from the rear left or right of your vehicle, the warning light on the side mirror may flash, a warning message may appear on the instrument cluster, and a warning sound may be heard.
When the rear view monitor is operating, a warning may appear on the infotainment system screen.
If a collision is unavoidable, emergency braking helps prevent a collision with approaching vehicles from the left or right side of your vehicle.
Emergency braking may activate if:
- You shift into R (Reverse) and your vehicle speed is below 5 mph (8 km/h).
- An approaching vehicle is detected within approximately 5 ft (1.5 m) to the left or right of your vehicle.
- The speed of the approaching vehicle from the left or right is above 3 mph (5 km/h).
WARNING
Brake control is canceled when:
- The approaching vehicle is outside the detection range.
- The approaching vehicle passes behind your vehicle.
- The approaching vehicle does not continue moving toward your vehicle.
- The speed of the approaching vehicle decreases.
- You depress the brake pedal sufficiently in response to the potential hazard detected by the system.
Stopping the Vehicle and Canceling Brake Control

After your vehicle has stopped following an emergency braking event, a "Drive Carefully" warning message may appear on the instrument cluster.
Immediately depress the brake pedal and check your surroundings.
- Brake control ends approximately 2 seconds after your vehicle stops.
- During emergency braking, brake control by the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may be automatically canceled when you depress the brake pedal with sufficient force.
WARNING
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate in all situations and cannot avoid all collisions. To avoid serious injury or death:
- Change settings only after parking the vehicle in a safe location.
- Always look over your shoulder for possible hazards and make sure it is safe to back up.
- When a warning message or warning sound from another system is activated, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not warn you.
- You may not hear the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist warning sound if the surrounding environment is too noisy.
- During Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist operation, your vehicle may stop suddenly. Always fasten your seat belt, check that passengers are wearing their seat belts, and secure loose items that could become projectiles.
- Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate if you depress the brake pedal with sufficient force in response to a potential hazard detected by the system.
- Even if there is a problem with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, the vehicle's brake system operates normally.
- When Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist is operating, brake assist is automatically canceled when you depress the accelerator pedal with sufficient force.
- Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may warn you late, or may not warn you, depending on road and driving conditions.
- Always maintain control of your vehicle. It is your responsibility to operate your vehicle safely. Do not rely solely on Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist to avoid a collision. Always maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, reduce vehicle speed or depress the brake pedal to reduce driving speed or stop the vehicle.
- Never attempt to deliberately drive toward people, animals, objects, or other vehicles to activate Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.
WARNING
Braking is not supported and only a warning is issued when:
- The ESC (Electronic Stability Control) warning light is illuminated.
- The ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is controlling braking force to the wheel.
Information
After shifting the transmission into R (Reverse), the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist activates once for an approaching vehicle from the left or right.
