If the selected seating position has a Switchable Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) seat belt, deactivate the seat belt by following the instructions below. Check which type of seat belt each seating position has.

  1. Loosen the adjusters on the lower straps and on the child restraint strap so that it is easier to attach the hooks or connectors to the vehicle anchorages.
  2. Place the child restraint between the lower anchorages for the selected seating position. If the rear seat can be folded, you may fold the seat and/or raise the head restraint (if adjustable) for a better fit. If the rear seat can be moved forward and rearward in the vehicle, you may want to move it to the rearmost position to make room for the child restraint. You may also move the front seat forward to leave more space for the child restraint.
  3. Attach the lower hooks or connectors of the child restraint to the lower anchorages in the selected seating position.
  4. If the child restraint has a tether strap, attach it to the upper tether anchorage. Refer to the instructions for attaching the tether strap to the anchor.
  5. Tighten all straps while pressing the child restraint back and down into the seat. Remove slack from the straps according to the child restraint manufacturer's instructions.
  6. Check that the child restraint is installed securely by pulling the child restraint forward and side to side at the belt path. It must not move more than 1 inch (25.4 mm) in any direction.
