Starting the Diesel Engine

~2min read

When starting a cold diesel engine, it must be preheated before starting the engine, and then warmed up before starting to drive.

1. Make sure the parking brake is applied.

2. Manual transmission: Fully depress the clutch pedal and shift the transmission into Neutral. Keep the clutch pedal and brake pedal depressed when turning the ignition switch to the ON position.

Dual clutch transmission: Shift the shift lever to P (Park).

Fully depress the brake pedal. You can also start the engine when the shift lever is in N (Neutral).

3. Turn the ignition key to the ON position to preheat the engine. The glow indicator will then illuminate.

4. When the glow indicator goes off, turn the ignition key to the START position and hold it until the engine starts (10 seconds maximum), then release the key.

✽ NOTICE

If the engine does not start within 10 seconds after preheating is complete, turn the ignition key to the LOCK position for 10 seconds, then to the ON position to preheat again.

Starting and Stopping the Engine for the Turbocharger Intercooler

1. Do not drive or accelerate the engine immediately after starting. If the engine is cold, idle for several seconds before driving to ensure sufficient lubrication to the turbocharger.

2. After high-speed driving or prolonged driving under heavy engine load, idle the engine for approximately 1 minute before turning it off. This idle time allows the turbocharger to cool before the engine is shut off.

CAUTION

Do not turn off the engine immediately after it has been under heavy load. This may cause serious damage to the engine or turbocharger.

Stopping Vehicles with a Manual Transmission

1. After parking the vehicle safely, depress the clutch pedal and brake pedal at the same time.

2. While depressing the clutch pedal and brake pedal, shift the transmission lever to the "N" position.
