Bulb Replacement Precautions

Keep spare bulbs of the appropriate rating on hand for emergencies.

Refer to "Lamp Power" in Chapter 8.

When replacing bulbs, first turn off the engine in a safe place, firmly apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

WARNING! Working on Lights

Before working on a lamp, firmly apply the parking brake, make sure the ignition switch is in the LOCK position, and turn off the lights to avoid sudden vehicle movement, burns to your fingers, or electric shock.

WARNING - Bulb Replacement

Always replace a burned-out bulb with one of the same wattage rating. Otherwise, the fuse or wiring system may be damaged.

CAUTION - Headlamp Lens

To avoid damage, do not clean the headlamp lens with chemical solvents or strong detergents.

• Bulb failure due to electrical circuit fault

The headlamp, tail lamp and fog lamp may come on when the headlamp switch is on and may not come on when the tail lamp or light switch is on. This may be caused by a network malfunction or a malfunction of the vehicle's electrical control system. If there is a problem, we recommend having the system serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.

• Lamp malfunction due to electrical control system stabilization

A normally operating lamp may flicker momentarily. This momentary occurrence is related to stabilization of the vehicle's electrical control system. If the lamp stops flickering after a few seconds, the vehicle does not require service.

However, if the lamp goes out after the momentary flicker, or the flickering continues, we recommend that the system be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.

✽ NOTICE

  • If the bulb or bulb connector is removed while the lamp is still on, the fuse box electronic system may register this as a malfunction. Therefore, the lamp malfunction may be recorded as a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in the fuse box.
  • It is normal for an operating lamp to flicker momentarily. This is due to the stabilizing function of the vehicle's electronic control unit. If the lamp operates normally after the brief flicker, it is functioning normally. However, if the lamp continues to flicker several times or turns off completely, there may be a malfunction in the vehicle's electronic control unit. Please have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer immediately.

✽ NOTICE

We recommend that the headlamp aiming be adjusted by an authorized Kia dealer after an accident or after reinstalling the headlamp assembly.

✽ NOTICE

After driving in heavy rain or washing the vehicle, the headlamp and tail lamp lenses may appear fogged. This condition is caused by the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the lamp. It is similar to condensation on your windows inside the vehicle during rain and does not indicate a problem with your vehicle. If water enters the lamp circuit, we recommend that you have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

If you do not have the necessary tools, correct bulbs and experience, contact an authorized Kia dealer. In many cases, it is difficult to replace vehicle bulbs because other parts of the vehicle must be removed before you can reach the bulb. This is especially true if you need to remove the headlamp assembly to reach the bulb(s).

Removing/installing the headlamp assembly may cause damage to the vehicle.

If non-genuine parts or low-quality bulbs are used, this may cause the fuse to blow or other wiring damage.

Do not install auxiliary lamps or LEDs on the vehicle. If auxiliary lamps are installed, this may cause lamp malfunction and flickering. In addition, the fuse block and other wiring may be damaged.
