Removal and Installation

Disassembling the thermostat may have adverse effects, reducing cooling efficiency. Do not remove the thermostat, even if the engine tends to overheat.
  1. Drain the engine coolant so that the level is below the thermostat.
  2. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).
  3. Remove the water outlet (C), gasket (B), and thermostat (A).

    Tightening torque: 7.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  4. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  • Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve facing up.
  • When installing the thermostat, place the thermostat on the housing with the thermostat protrusion aligned with the groove in the housing, then install the gasket and inlet pipe. Be careful that the thermostat does not come out of the groove in the housing.
  1. Fill the engine coolant.
  2. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  3. Recheck the coolant level.

Inspection

  1. Immerse the thermostat in water heated to above 95 °C, then heat for at least 3 minutes to check the valve lift.
    • Do not use water below 95 °C.
    • Do not heat the unit directly, as this will damage the thermostat.
  2. Check the valve opening temperature. Valve opening temperature: 88 ± 1.5 °C Fully open temperature: 100°C (212°F) If the valve opening temperature is not as specified, replace the thermostat.
  3. Check the valve lift.

Valve lift: 8 mm (0.3 in) or more at 100 °C

If the valve lift is not as specified, replace the thermostat.
