Emergency While Driving

~1min read

If the engine stalls at an intersection or crosswalk

If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing, place the shift lever in the N (Neutral) position, then push the vehicle to a safe place.

If You Have a Flat Tire While Driving

If a tire goes flat while driving:

1. Remove your foot from the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to slow down while traveling straight. Do not apply the brake immediately or attempt to steer off the road, as this may result in loss of control.

When the vehicle has slowed to a speed at which it is safe, carefully apply the brakes and steer off the road. Move as far off the road as possible and park on firm, level ground. If you are on a divided road, do not park in the median between the two traffic lanes.

2. When the vehicle is stopped, turn on the hazard warning flashers, set the parking brake, and place the shift lever in P (Park, automatic transmission) or in reverse (manual transmission).

3. Ask all passengers to leave the vehicle. Make sure they all exit on the side of the vehicle away from traffic.

4. When replacing a flat tire, follow the instructions provided later in this section.

If the Engine Stalls While Driving

1. Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully move off the road to a safe location.

2. Turn on the hazard warning lights.

3. Try to start the engine again. If your vehicle does not start, contact an authorized Kia dealer or seek other qualified assistance.

✽ NOTICE

If the Check Engine light comes on and there is a loss of power or the engine stalls, and if it is safe to do so, wait at least 10 seconds before restarting the vehicle after it has stalled. This may reset the vehicle so that it no longer operates in limp-home mode (in chromatic mode).
