Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery and wait at least 30 seconds.
  2. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels point straight ahead.
  3. Remove the airbag module. (Refer to Restraint System - Driver Airbag Module (DAB) and Clock Spring)
  4. Disconnect the connector and lock nut (A), then remove the steering wheel using the Special Service Tool (09561-11001).

    Tightening torque: 39.2 ~ 49 N·m

    • Do not strike the steering wheel to remove it; this may damage the steering column.
    • Do not reuse the lock nut.
    • When installing, always replace the lock nut with a new one. (SEAL-LOCK treated)
  5. Loosen the screw and remove the upper and lower steering column covers (A).
  6. Remove the emergency pad lower panel. (Refer to Body - "Emergency Pad Lower Panel")
  7. Disconnect the connectors (A) and remove the clock spring (B).
  8. Disconnect the connector (A).
  9. Loosen the screw and remove the multifunction switches (A).
  10. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the universal joint assembly (A) from the steering gear pinion.

    Tightening torque: 32.4 ~ 37 N·m

Insert into the shaft so that the center of the bolt and the mark (A) are aligned.
  11. Disconnect all connectors connected to the steering column.
  12. Remove the steering column and EPS unit by loosening the mounting bolt (B) and nuts (A). Tightening torque: Nut: 24.5 ~ 29 N·m Bolt: 44.1 ~ 49 N·m
  13. Loosen the bolt (A) and then disconnect the universal joint assembly from the steering column assembly.

    Tightening torque: 28.9 ~ 36 N·m

ASP calibration and EPS type recognition must be performed after installation.

Disassembly

Key Lock Assembly
  1. Using a punch, make a groove in the head of the special bolts (A).
  2. Loosen the special bolt using a screwdriver, then remove the lock assembly from the steering column assembly.
  3. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly.

Inspection

  1. Inspect the steering column for damage and deformation.
  2. Inspect the joint bearing for damage and wear.
  3. Inspect the tilt bracket for damage and cracks.
  4. Check the key lock operation and replace it if necessary.
